Dr. Sara Iverson

Dr. Sara Iverson is a Professor of Biology and the Scientific Director of the global Ocean Tracking Network (OTN), an international aquatic animal tracking and conservation program, and a Canadian National Research Facility, headquartered at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS. Sara also leads an interdisciplinary research program that uses a suite of tools ranging from biochemical tracers to energetic measurements to tracking studies to better understand the biology of marine animals (primarily marine mammals, polar bears and seabirds) and the food webs and ecosystems within which they function. Sara received her PhD jointly from the Smithsonian Institution and University of Maryland, USA, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (Academy of Science). Sara was recently selected by Mattel Inc and National Geographic as an influential Canadian Scientist for Barbie’s 60th anniversary ‘You Can Be Anything’ campaign, which focuses on inspiring young girls to imagine careers in research, science and exploration, and where Sara serves as role model for the new polar marine biologist Barbie.

It should also be noted that Captain Kirk and Spock were Sara's heroes!
